Us versus Them

Abby's been suffering with horrible allergies now for about a month. She doesn't have a runny nose or itchy swollen eyes-- nope, she's lucky enough to have terribly itchy skin. Itchy to the point that she draws blood and rubs again the wall and is, in general, kind of grumpy. We started by changing all her soaps and lotions to hypoallergenic, which did nothing. We used benadryl three times per day, which did nothing except make her sleepy. We started zyrtec, singulair, and atarax, which seemed to help a little.
And finally, we went to an allergist. We spent 2.5 hours there yesterday (after I filled out a 30 page history questionaire.....do you know what kind of carpet you have??) And this is what she came home with:

So we stay on the same meds as before and have added about a million creams, lotions, emollients, and even a foam. I'm hopeful that this will help, but honestly, it's hard to look at this stack of meds for my "healthy" child. However, the next step is allergy testing if we can get her off the antihistamines, and an immunosuppresant if we can't, so I'm going to stay hopeful that this will work. The immunosuppressant makes me nervous-- too many side effects. I'll keep you updated!

Posting Blitz

I'm going on a posting blitz...watch out! And keep reading.

I went to the OB yesterday for my 16 week visit. Everything looked good. My blood pressure was better, weight is up 5 pounds (after having lost 20 at the last visit). Little beaner's heart beat was 148, measuring on schedule. And hopefully any time now I'll get a call from the nurse with our ultrasound appointment so we can find out what we're having! Abby still doesn't get it....she will soon enough, so we let her be in denial for now.

Thunderstorms expected tonight in OK.....I'm excited!

Mommy's Car is Broken

My car was in a wreck last night. Not me, just my car. I was parked in front of a friend's house, and a tiny older Asian lady who didn't speak much English managed to hit my parked car on a wide, well lit street. Not sure how she did that. I initially thought it was just some bumper and taillight damage, but when Dave looked at he was afraid there was more stuff under the car that I couldn't see.

We exchanged information and went on our merry ways...after 1.5 hours and her daughter, who was called in to translate. I think all will ok-- fastforward to today.
I call my insurance this am, get my car towed to a shop, get a rental (more on that in a minute). Things are still ok. Until....
She calls. And informs me her insurance is actually expired. But she went this morning and got insurance. And would I consider not reporting this to insurance until tomorrow and just saying that she hit me tonight. Basically, will I commit insurance fraud. When I politely said no (and oh by the way I've already called my insurance company) she was upset and acted like it was my fault. Awesome.
So I call the insurance company back, and they nicely assure me that it'll be ok and I'll still just owe my deductible and they'll go after her directly for repayment. I feel better now.

It's been a rough 24 hours. So when I went for a pedicure this afternoon, I had them put a pretty flower on each of my big toes. I feel MUCH better now.
So it'll be ok. BUT....while I'm waiting for my car to be fixed, I'm driving.....drum roll.....a dodge caravan. Yes, a minivan. Nothing like the cool convertible mustang I got to rent in med school. I guess I'm 5 years older and have a toddler now though, so it's ok. And I secretly do like the minivan a little bit....but not enough to buy one myself yet!
And throughout all of this, my beautiful daughter has made up a song...."mommy's car is broken" which she sings oh so beautifully whenever she thinks about it. Which is often.

Roller Derby

So Dave and I had a date night last week (along with our friends Adrienne and Jason) and we tried a new OKC experience...the roller derby! I was inspired after seeing "Whip It" a few months ago, and then we heard that Oklahoma City was getting a roller derby team. It was like it was meant to be!

(In Jason's defense, this was a couple of beers in!)

It was located in the old Farmer's Market downtown, and they had the place all spified up with Chinese lanterns. They explained the rules at the beginning and gave us a nice handbook to follow. And then the pushing and shoving began!

All types of people there...people who could have worked with us at the hospital down to bumpkin OK people who had no teeth. Lots of kids running around too. We had a great time....I highly recommend the experience if you've got a roller derby near you!

A Rowdy Ride on Rody

One of the birthday presents that she loves....but I'm not sure if he loves her!

Happy 2nd birthday!!

My little girl turned 2 on Friday! I can't believe it... where did the time go???
This afternoon after coming home from Meme and Papa's, she needed a nap, and I just sat beside her crib and watched her sleep. She amazes me more and more each day-- I really can't imagine my life without her. I think she teaches me way more than I teach her.
So to celebrate this momentous occasion, we had a party!
We went with a Spongebob theme, since that seems to be her favorite cartoon.

She spend the morning playing in her birthday swing...I LOVE this picture. It's a little blurry, but it's pure 2 year old bliss!

Party time! Most of the party pictures were just pure chaos. But here's a couple...kid chaos at present opening time. We asked for no presents. No one listened.

Talking on her new phone
Surrounded by all the gifts

And her favorite gift of all, from Aunt Tammy and Uncle Jason

I think she'll love this tricycle from Meme and Papa--she's just got to grow a little to reach the peddles!

By the end of the party, she'd had enough stimulation, and it was meltdown time.

But she quickly recovered in time to eat some cake.

And she ended the day just the way she started...in the swing!
